Love, Loss and Wholeness: A Wkd of Expansion Through Grief Feb 6-8th, 2026

This weekend offers a different path through grief—not around it, not over it, but through it into expansion. The land will hold us. The fire will witness us. Grief may transform, as it naturally does when given space, into a deeper awareness of the love, care, and connection present in our lives and in the world around us. Inspired by teachings such as those of Martín Prechtel, and trained in the Tzutujil Maya tradition, we recognize that expressing grief aloud is a natural way to honour what we have loved, lost, or longed for.

Throughout the weekend, nature immersion and reflective practices will invite you into a quiet, nurturing, and healing connection with the land. You will be guided in short meditations and yoga/breath-work (no experience needed) to support presence, ease, and self-compassion. There will be opportunities to sit in a circle and share, to connect around meals, and to experience warm, supportive connections with others. Creative and reflective practices, guided by the rhythms and presence of the land, will provide space to listen, observe, and allow insight or understanding to arise naturally.

Rest, Reflect, and Renew

Loss and grief are not meant to make us smaller—they are meant to make us larger. When we lose someone or something precious—through death, miscarriage, divorce, life transitions, or even the heartbreaks we feel witnessing what is happening in the world—the world often tells us to “heal,” to “move on,” or to “find closure,” as if grief were a problem to solve, a passage to complete, a wound to close.

But what if grief is an opening, not a closing? What if fully entering loss can expand us into more aliveness, more compassion, and more wholeness than we knew before?

Love is the thread we return to—woven through our memories, our longings, and our grief. At Fells Meadows, the land offers a true sanctuary: a magical presence that holds, embraces, and steadies us. The trees, the meadows, and the quiet pathways listen with a depth that invites us to soften. In their company, grief can speak honestly, and love can rise to meet it.

“The Work of the mature human being is to carry grief in one hand and gratitude in the other, and to be wretched large by these to things.” _ Francis Weller - 1

Our Facilitators

Mark Jenkins
Mark is a writer and storyteller whose work is rooted in thirty-five years of study in Indigenous teachings about land, beauty, and the power of story. From his cabin in Northern Ontario, he has spent the last decade listening deeply to the natural world—where snow and silence, firelight and flowing rivers have shaped his understanding of loss, renewal, and the wider cycles of life. After accompanying his mother through her final years with dementia, Mark entered a longer journey—held in solitude and relationship with the land—that revealed how grief, when fully met, can expand our humanity. In a culture that urges us to move on and stay productive, his work invites us to slow down, make space for what has been lost, and rediscover what becomes possible when we are accompanied through sorrow rather than asked to carry it alone.

Leslie Fell
Leslie has long been passionate about holistic care, supporting people through life transitions, wellness, and community connection. Her work in health and community care, combined with her formal education and guidance from Indigenous elders and mentors she has studied and worked with, has shaped her deep understanding of grief, loss, and renewal. Leslie created Fells Meadows, a sanctuary space which protects the land and enables people to nourish mind, body, heart, and soul—to find peace, reflection, and renewal. She is passionate about and experienced in holding space for participants to explore paths of healing, connection, and expansion. Leslie is also the founder of the Canadian charity Living Ways Foundation, which is dedicated to renewing connections with nature, community, and self.
