We respectfully acknowledge our location on the treaty and traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg. We offer our gratitude to all First Peoples for their care for, and teachings about, our earth and our relations. We are committed to continuing to honour, respect and care for the land and all beings.

For years, I wanted to create a sanctuary space which protected the land and enabled people to have a place to rejuvenate in nature, in solitude or with friends and family. I was drawn to the property for its numerous ecosystems, rolling hills, diverse wildlife and whispering trees. Fells Meadows was created as an incorporated business/social enterprise in 2017. It’s a special realization of my vision.

The name is inspired by the moor-covered hills (the fells) on the Isle of Man, Scotland and northern England. The rolling fells and meadows of the property bring to mind these original landscapes in the UK. Of course, there is a family connection carrying the Fell name.

The property contains a number of cozy accommodation spaces besides the farmhouse which include:

• Haven on the Hill-top - overseeing the hills and valleys of Northumberland County
• Haven in the Meadow - tucked in the red pines in the valley
• Rainbow Haven (Safari Wall Tent)
• White Pine Haven - the bunkie tucked in the white pines

Each of the above accommodations intentionally has ‘haven’ in its name. Haven means safety and a place of refuge. Havens’ Hub with a kitchenette, solar shower and compost toilet is for use of the Havens’ guests.

When I went to take a photo of the structure being built, there was a rainbow eye encompassing the wall tent frame. When I took another photo after the canvas was on the frame, it was encircled by a rainbow. The rainbow has often been used in literature and art to symbolize the bridge between the land and sky, the earth and the heavens. It’s a powerful symbol for indigenous tribes and is an important symbol in many cultures. To me, this area of pine forest near the wall tent is a haven of peace.

This is a special feature of the property and I invite you to take some time to experience it. The labyrinth is not a maze. The labyrinth is for journeys of the spirit. There is one path that leads to the centre and the same path leads back out. The labyrinth is a symbol of our journey through life. Our labyrinth is a unique meditation and prayer tool that many of our guests enjoy.
